Find the Perfect Wood Finial

Choosing the right wood lamp finial can transform your lamp into a cohesive and elegant centerpiece. To find the perfect wood finial for your lamp, you should consider the following:

The Finish

Not all wood finials look the same. Our collection includes several different variations of finishes, including wood finials with a white, walnut, or natural wood finish.

Shape

Wood finials come in various shapes, and the shape you choose will determine your lamp's overall aesthetic and balance. For example, some of the different wood finials you’ll find in our collection include ones shaped like a cube, wing, ball, and cylinder.

Consider simple shapes such as spheres, cylinders, or clean geometric designs to achieve a sleeker, more modern appearance. These styles work well with minimalist or contemporary lamps, providing a subtle yet stylish finishing touch.

Consider ornate or carved finials with intricate details if your lamp has a less traditional or vintage style. These decorative shapes can add character and draw attention to the lamp as a statement piece.

The Lamp Base

As the base is one of a lamp's main components, the style and material of the lamp base should guide your choice when selecting a wood finial.

If your lamp base is made of wood, a wooden finial would complement it perfectly, creating a unified and natural look. Conversely, a crystal finial can add a touch of elegance to lamp bases made of metal, glass, or ceramic.

Size

Like lamps and lampshades, finials also come in different sizes to suit various lamp styles and proportions. Choosing the right size finial is essential for ensuring your lamp looks balanced and cohesive.

Finding the right-sized finial can make all the difference. If it’s too large, it might overshadow the lamp, but if it’s too small, it could go unnoticed and leave the design feeling incomplete.

Durability and Maintenance

Finials made from wood, especially those in darker tones or natural finishes, can more easily show dust or scratches. But their color naturally changes over time, shaped by things like sunlight and the room’s humidity.

This natural aging process imparts a unique character to the wood, deepening its tone and making it even more elegant over time.

Which Lampshades Are Compatible With Wood Finials?

Wood finials are compatible with a number of different lampshades, including:

Drum

Drum lamp shades are best known for their clean, cylindrical shape, making them a popular choice for modern and traditional interiors.

The uniform shape of a drum lamp shade allows light to emit in all directions, minimizing harsh shadows and spreading light consistently. A drum lampshade is a popular choice for lighting up living rooms, bedrooms, dining areas, and even office spaces.

These shades commonly use spider fitters, which are designed to sit on top of the lamp’s harp and have a built-in attachment for the finial at the top of the harp.

To secure the shade, the wood finial is screwed onto the top of the harp. That way, the finial will not only hold the drum shade in place but will also add a decorative element that will enhance the lamp’s overall design.

Empire

Empire lamp shades are a timeless option that adds a touch of sophistication to any lamp.

Characterized by their design, these shades are narrower at the top and wider at the bottom, creating a graceful, flared silhouette that enhances the lamp’s overall appearance.

Bell

As the name suggests, bell lamp shades feature a design that closely mimics the shape of a bell, with the bottom wider than the top. Although many Bell lamp shades also have a spider fitter, some bell shades use an uno fitter, which attaches directly to the socket.

An uno fitter eliminates the need for a harp, as the shade sits securely on the socket. However, uno fitters are less common in American-made lamps and are more often found in European-style lamps.

In the case of an Uno fitter, a Euro converter would be necessary to use a finial. The Euro converter would attach directly to your lamp, allowing you to add a harp

Although it might sound daunting, this conversion can be easily facilitated by utilizing these two simple pieces of hardware. Explore all of the different lamp hardware products available on our collection, which are often used for different lamp attachments and conversions.
